Are Vertigo and Tinnitus Related?
Vertigo and tinnitus are related as they are both conditions related to your ear. People who experience tinnitus may suffer from vertigo. However, not all people who suffer from tinnitus suffer from vertigo and vice versa.

Symptoms and Causes of Vertigo
Vertigo is a condition where a person has the sensation of moving or of surrounding objects moving when they are not. Often it feels like a spinning, dizziness or swaying movement.
According to WebMD, common signs and symptoms of vertigo include:
- Spinning
- Tilting
- Swaying
- Unbalanced
- Pulled to one direction
- Feeling nauseated
- Vomiting
- Abnormal or jerking eye movements (nystagmus)
- Headache
- Sweating
- Ringing in the ears or hearing loss
These symptoms can last a few hours or more.
Common causes of vertigo include head injury, inner ear infections or diseases of the ear such as benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), vestibular neuritis, and Meniere’s disease.
Symptoms and Causes of Tinnitus
If you are experiencing ringing in your ear, then it’s most likely a condition called tinnitus.
Common signs and symptoms of Tinnitus
- Buzzing in Ears
- Roaring in Ears
- Clicking in Ears
- Hissing in Ears
- Humming in Ears
You may hear these noises in one ear or both.
Some common causes of tinnitus are hearing loss, head injuries, ear infection, inner ear canal blockage, and medications (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, water pills, certain antibiotics, and cancer drugs).
There are various treatments for vertigo and tinnitus and they can be treated in different ways depending on severity.
