What to Do If You Have Too Much Iron In Your Blood?

Having too much iron in your blood is a condition called hemochromatosis.

This occurs because your body absorbs excess iron from the foods you eat. The iron builds up and gets stored in your organs, especially your liver, heart and pancreas.

This is also referred to as iron overload.

The two types of hemochromatosis is hereditary hemochromatosis, meaning it runs in families, and secondary hemochromatosis, which is caused by certain conditions like anemia, liver disease and blood transfusions.

Iron overload can lead to serious conditions, such as liver disease, heart problems and diabetes.

There is a way you can treat hemochromatosis.
